Check your backlinks

See which sites link to one of your websites, how strong and how spammy those links are, and how the totals change over time.

Backlinks shows who links to one of your own sites. It has its own tab on the site's page.

Find the section

  1. In the sidebar, select Analysis > Website. It opens your primary site. To switch sites, select the site's name at the top of the page.
  2. Select the Backlinks tab.

Overview also has a short Backlinks card: the backlinks and referring domains totals, how each changed since the capture before, and when it was last checked. Select View backlinks to open the tab. Before the first capture, the card is one line with an Open Backlinks link.

If you haven't added a site yet, add one under Settings > Websites first. See Manage websites.

Opening the page is free. It shows the last snapshot you captured. Each press of Refresh backlinks is a paid lookup.

Until the first refresh, the tab says no backlinks are captured yet. Select Refresh backlinks. When it finishes, you'll see "Updated just now." After that, the date next to the button shows when backlinks were last checked, like "Last checked on 9/22".

Read the overview

Overview shows the totals for your site. Point at the info icon next to a total to see what it means.

  • Backlinks: every link from another site to yours.
  • Referring domains: how many different sites link to you.
  • Referring pages: how many different pages on other sites link to you.
  • Rank: the overall strength of your site's links, 0 to 100. Higher is better.
  • Broken backlinks: links to pages on your site that no longer load.
  • Broken pages: pages on your site that other sites link to but that no longer load.
  • Spam score: the average spam score across the sites linking to you.

Two charts sit next to it:

  • Backlink growth plots backlinks and referring domains at each refresh. It needs at least two refreshes to draw a line.
  • Links first seen counts the links in this snapshot by the month they were first picked up.

The Backlinks tab lists each link, strongest first:

  • Source: the site and page the link is on.
  • Target: the page on your site the link points to.
  • Anchor: the clickable text of the link.
  • Flags: shows Nofollow when the link asks search engines not to pass credit to your page.
  • Link rank: the strength of this one link, 0 to 100.
  • Domain rank: the strength of the whole linking site, 0 to 100.
  • Spam: how likely the linking site is spam, 0 to 100. Under 30 is low and shows green, 30 to 59 is medium and shows amber, and 60 and up is high and shows red.
  • First seen: when the link was first found.

Select a column header to sort by it. To narrow the list, type a domain, page, or anchor text in Filter, or pick Followed only or Nofollow only under Links. The line next to the filters shows "Showing" with how many links match.

Top pages

The Top pages tab lists the pages on your site that get the most links, with Referring domains and Best domain rank for each. Best domain rank is the domain rank of the strongest site linking to that page.
