# Use the calendar

> Read your posts and posting slots by day, three days, or week, and move a post into an open slot.

The **Calendar** shows your posts and your posting slots day by day. Open it
from the sidebar: **Content** > **Calendar**. Times are in your workspace
timezone, shown next to the channel list.

## Change what you see

Pick **Day**, **3 days**, or **Week** at the top right. If you haven't picked
one, the calendar chooses by the space it has: a week on a wide screen, three
days on a narrow one, and one day on a phone. Your pick is remembered on this
browser.

Select the arrows to go back or forward by the length of the view, and
**Today** to come back.

Keyboard shortcuts work anywhere on the page, except while you're typing in a
field:

## Read a day

Each day lists its posts and empty slots in time order. A post card shows its
channel, time, status, the first line of the post, and a thumbnail when it
has an image. Select a card to open the post. A dashed card is a post
published outside Mark, marked with where it came from.

An empty posting slot shows its channel and time, with one of three labels:

* **Gap**: the slot is in the next 7 days and has no post yet.
* **Open**: the slot is more than 7 days away.
* **Missed**: the slot's time passed with nothing in it.

Above the days, each channel shows how many of its slots are filled this
week, like **Instagram 2/3**. A slot counts as filled once its post is
approved, scheduled, or published. A draft or a post in review sits on the
slot but doesn't fill it yet. A channel with no slots shows its post count
instead. Select a channel to hide it from the calendar, and again to show it.

## Move a post

A post can move to an empty future slot on its own channel. Published posts,
external posts, and posts with changes requested can't move.

To drag a post, grab its card and drop it on a slot that reads **Drop here**.
Only the slots that can take it light up.

To move a post without dragging:

1. Open the **…** menu on the post card.
2. Under **Move to slot**, choose a slot. The list has only the slots in view
   that can take the post.

The calendar refreshes with the post in its new slot.

## What moving does to review

If the post is a draft, it only gets the new time. Nothing else changes.

Any other post goes back to review with the new time. That includes posts
that were already approved or scheduled, so someone has to approve it again
before it can publish. For how review works, see

## When a move is refused

If Mark can't make the move, the calendar shows why under the days:

* "Choose a slot on the same channel." A post can only move within its own
  channel.
* "Choose an empty future slot." The slot's time has passed.
* "That posting slot is already occupied." Another post took the slot first.
  Pick a different one.
* "Published posts are read-only." The post already went out.
* "External posts are read-only." The post was published outside Mark.
* "This post changed. Refresh the calendar and try again." Someone else
  changed the post while you were moving it. Refresh the page and move it
  again.
* "That post or posting slot is no longer available." The post or the slot
  was deleted. Refresh the page.
* "Mark couldn't move that post. Try again." Something went wrong on our
  side, and we've been told.
